9am Sunday 5th March
We are looking forward to welcoming you all to the City centre for our 10th Anniversary event – please read the following information to help ensure that you have the best experience.
Your decision to run on the day should be based on the knowledge that you have trained sufficiently and are able to run at least 10 miles at any one time. If you haven’t been able to undertake the required training you will struggle to finish the half marathon safely and won’t enjoy it.
Getting To Newport City Centre
We cannot stress enough the need to allow plenty of time to get to the event. The lane closures around the city centre will begin from 6am, with limited access until 8.30am when they will close completely. New for this year is a total closure of the A4042 southbound – from Sainsburys junction all the way to the end of Usk way. Once the race has started and all the runners are safely off the road one lane will re-open. The opposite lane, heading North will remain open.
There are several city centre car parks, the largest of which is The Kingsway Car Park – Their postcode for sat nav is: NP20 1EU Usk Way southbound will be closed, you will need to access the car park from the SDR or A48 Cardiff Road. The NCP Car Park, High Street, postcode: NP20 4AX and Friars Walk Car park will also be open. (access from the South – heading North – only) There may be charges for the car parking. Please plan your journey and parking prior to setting out.
*Don’t forget the Mecure Hotel in the City Centre is offering runners a 10% discount on their rooms – to book Email HB3G0-RE@accor.com and quote ‘St Davids’
Race HQ, Baggage and Race Day Queries
Please allow plenty of time to park and get to the start. The race starts at 9am, from Usk Way, in front of the University campus building. Please take care crossing Usk Way as the North bound lane will not be closed to traffic. Use the designated crossing points to access the entrances to the start pens. Please start in the pen most relevant to your estimated finish time.
The Event HQ is situated in the University Campus building – Access is from the rear – do not use the front entrance as it gets very congested.
We are once again asking you to arrive ready to run – perhaps wear an old top that you can discard at the start – (these will be handed to the Charity Pride in Pill who will distribute them to homeless people.)
Whilst it is very limited, we do have some baggage storage in the event HQ. Access from the rear of the University.
Race Timing & Bibs
The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon is a timed event and uses timing chips that are attached to your bib number. Please ensure your runner number is safely and clearly pinned to the FRONT of your t-shirt.
Your timing chip will activate as you cross the start line so please don’t worry if others start ahead of you.
IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU FILL IN ALL INFORMATION ON THE REAR OF YOUR BIB, ESPECIALLY ANY MEDICAL INFORMATION.
All runners must wear their race bib, failure to wear this will lead to no time being registered and you being
asked to leave the course. Should you lose or misplace your bib there will be a limited number available at
Race HQ in the University between 8am until 8.45am. Be aware that there is a charge of £5 for replacement packs/timing chip, so please don’t lose or forget to bring yours!
Water Stations
Radnor Hills are our official hydration partner and will be available to all our runners around the course and also at the finish. Water stations can be found at approximately miles 3, 6, 9, 12 and the finish area.
Pacing
Please remember not to overestimate your pace, if you set off too fast you will tire quickly and be likely to struggle later in the race. We have a fantastic team of pacers who are there to help you. The pacers will aim to run the half marathon within the following estimated times: 1:30, 1.45hrs, 2 hrs, 2.10hrs 2.20hrs and 2:30hrs. The pacers will be on the course wearing sail flags.
Toilet Facilities
Toilet facilities are available near the Start on the river path, and in the University of South Wales Campus. There will also be toilets located along the route, near the water stations. Please DO NOT urinate on the street – this will result in disqualification and a ban from the event in future. Race officials will be monitoring for offenders.
Your Safety
If at any time during the race you feel unable to continue, please stop, rest and locate the nearest marshal for advice. Medical teams will be situated along the course, as well as at the start and finish areas. The primary medical tent will be situated near the finish line at the University Campus
Should you have any medical conditions you MUST include this on the back of your bib. It is your responsibility
to inform the organisers if you have any special medical conditions.
The wearing of headphones (other than bone conducting ones) is strictly prohibited by UK Athletics
Post-Race
On completion of the half marathon, please keep on moving through the finish area as there will be a great number of runners finishing around you. Please collect your t-shirt, and your medal before leaving the finish area. Spectators are not allowed into the finish area.

Race results will appear online at FRsystems.co.uk as you finish, Prizes winners will be contacted by email or post.
Finally, we would like to offer our sincere thanks once again to Admiral for their continued support, and to all the runners, volunteers, supporters and wonderful sponsors.
