Admiral Confirms Continued Support For St David’s Hospice Care and the City of Newport Half Marathon

St David’s Hospice Care announced today that Admiral is once again supporting the City of Newport Half Marathon – although this year, due to the ongoing pandemic, the event will be a ‘virtual’ experience.
Rhian Langham, Head of People Services at Admiral said “The Admiral City of Newport Half Marathon is a fantastic event for the city of Newport, the participants and St David’s Hospice Care – a very worthy cause. We’re glad the event has been able to adapt during these uncertain times and are delighted to sponsor the first virtual Newport Half and show our support for the 8th consecutive year. Good luck to all taking part!”

The Virtual event will give participants the opportunity to pick their own route and run or walk 13.1 miles anytime between 26th February and 6 March. All those who take part will receive a medal and a t-shirt for their effort.

Speaking for the Charity, Christine Vorrés said “Our supporters have come to expect high standards when taking part in the Newport half marathon, and thanks to the fantastic support of Admiral once again, we are delighted to be able to offer medals and t-shirts of the same premier quality as previous years. Whilst it is hugely disappointing that we can’t offer the normal cheery atmosphere and support, we sincerely hope that the community will get behind this Virtual event and help us raise much needed funds to support our work.”

David Sinclair of Cardiff – 2019 Welsh Athletics Group Leader of the Year and a Member CDF Runners told the hospice:
“I think I’ll enter this as incentive to push a bit on a half training run. It’s also great that it’s organised by such an amazing organisation and that you can see the money goes directly to them not to an intermediate organisation – they looked after my mum in her final few weeks a couple of years ago and they really are amazing. Plus if the previous medals are anything to go by….”

St David’s Hospice Care provides hospice services in the community across south east Wales and lower Powys, and at any one time may have over 1,000 patients under their care. In order to provide these much needed services costs the Charity nearly £9m a year, and most of this is raised by fundraising within the community.
